Visiting a diner with a group

Arrange seating, ordering and payment beforehand.

Check that the menu fits

Share the current menu with your companions and collect any important requirements. Contact the diner about ingredient restrictions or accessibility needs. Do not assume a large menu guarantees every guest will have a suitable choice.

Ask about seating

Tell the diner the expected headcount and ask whether it takes group reservations. Confirm whether seating together is possible and whether booths or tables affect the arrangement. Record any booking terms and the deadline for changes.

Agree on the ordering plan

Ask whether the group orders individually or uses a special menu. Check how shared dishes and additions will be recorded. If guests want separate bills, ask whether that is possible before the server starts taking orders.

Confirm and communicate

Choose one person to update the diner if the headcount or arrival time changes. Send the address and meeting instructions to everyone. Give staff the final details on arrival so they can explain the next step without several competing requests.
